A conference about IPR in HKSAR held in Geneva
On 23 September, the Representative Office of Hong Kong Special Administratiive Region in Berlin and that of HKSAR to WTO jointly held a conference-dinner at the Bristal Hotel in Geneva during which the current situation of IPR(intellectual property rights) in HK is the main topic.
More than 50 Swiss officials, international organizations officials, lawyers, scholars and academics specilalizing in IRP, diplomates from China's Mission to the WTO attended this event.
There were two or three speeches which were interesting, inspiring and mind-opening. I had a few difficulties to understand some speechers due to their strong British English accent. I need to get myself accustomed to the British accent.
This event was a full success. Only regret was that no one asked any question during the Q&A session by the end of the last intervention.
Maybe all the participants were too hungry. I am kidding.
To improve English by watching CNN
Many netizens back in China and overseas have posted numerous articles concerning how to effectively improve English. As a English proverb tells us: all roads lead to Rome. The same is true that there exist many roads which can also navigate us to our final destination: a good proficiency of English.
The key question is that which path is one of the fastest and shortest ones. As, by the end of day, life is short, and we have many dreams to realize and many causes to pursue. We cannot afford the luxury to spend years and years in English learning. We need to make key breakthrough as soon as possible and learn many other more important subjects in English, with English and by English.
Watch CNN may be one of the best routes. At least in my eyes. Why? All CNN regular watchers can tell you. CNN repeats the same headlines many times during the same day. These constant repeats allow us to improve our understanding and catch up with the news even our level is very high. The hosts, reporters, news-announcers, anchors, all of the CNN staff members speak English in an impeccable American standard accent. The language they use is a modern, contemporary, updated English. We don't need to worry about a classical, old-fashioned English.
I will expand, develop and deepen this topic if many of you show interested in this. All comments and remarks are welcome.
